He is presently teaching pupils at Virginia Tech Community College in Petersburg. (As of March 19, 2020) James is a retired teacher and Principal, having trained at 4 various Virginia schools. Daniel had a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown Faculty. In addition, he served as the Vice President of Virginia Education Association for 2 years. He graduated with honors and in his senior year was selected by the renowned Georgetown Law Review to participate in a weeklong study abroad program at the Sorbonne Faculty in Paris.

At the judicial branch, he's been a magistrate, a deputy prosecutor, an assistant Commonwealth attorney, and an appeals court judge. He is at present on the Circuit Court of the City of Lynchburg, the Circuit Court of the City of Richmond, and the Circuit Court of Virginia Beach.
